About us

The Licensing and Syndication Team

The team are responsible for licensing ESI content and manage high revenue relationships with a range of publishers, digital partners and other content providers. The Independent is part of a joint venture to publish four Independent-branded sites in Arabic, Turkish, Urdu and Persian.

About you

  • Experienced translator from Arabic to English and vice versa. Similar experience in Turkish is preferred

Job purpose

You will support the business by reviewing content published by partners on English and non-English language websites and reporting on published articles. The role also involves assisting other team members and may require weekend and out-of-hours working.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor ESI content on partner sites
  • Log the content published on partner sites in Excel
  • Check translated articles by comparing them with the source articles
  • Highlight any translation issues/errors and clearly report them to the Senior International Content Executive
  • Liaise with the Senior International Content Executive over errors and anomalies to maintain the quality of translation
  • Indicate any potential compliance issues to the Editorial team
  • Assist the team with other tasks as required

Skills and experience

  • Completely fluent in English and Arabic (and preferably Turkish). Additional languages such as Persian, Urdu, and Spanish will be a benefit
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Previous experience in proofreading/editing/reviewing is preferable
  • Previous media/journalism experience with a keen editorial eye
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to choose the right keywords to find relevant information

The Role

Job Purpose

This is a senior role within the Independent commercial team. Its core purpose is to raise awareness and build the profile of the Independent brand to advertisers, clients and media agencies. Working with the senior Independent commercial team to create a strategy and plan that will put the independent brand, audiences, content and advertising opportunities front of mind with customers. This role will directly impact on the financial success of The Independent and help build its capabilities for commercial success.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Creation and ownership of the trade marketing plan
  • Ownership of trade marketing budget – justified and used effectively
  • Run a variety of events and activations to promote the Independent to advertisers and agencies
  • Manage and optimise the CRM system to help with customer engagement
  • Help develop and promote case studies
  • Work alongside research and Insight to help develop themes and positive stories to take to market
  • Develop marketing comms for advertisers and agencies – including newsletters and website
  • Own and build a strong social marketing profile with customers
  • Work with senior team on branding and design
  • Work with selected PR agency on Indy comms
  • Hold relationship with key trade marketing bodies such as Newsworks

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience working for a media owner or client with core skills in trade marketing and/or marketing
  • An in-depth understanding of the media and advertising industries
  • Has strong understanding of how PR agencies and trade organisations work
  • Excellent organisation, time management and prioritisation skills required; ability to
  • and thrive in a multi-tasked, fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Experienced at developing strategies and integrating these into business plans and activities
  • Experienced team leader, able to motivate high performing people.
  • Strong negotiator, experienced in working within a senior team.
  • Excellent written, presentation and team skills
  • Experience of using social media, video, website and other key digital platforms to deliver a string Trade Marketing plan
  • Experience working with a design team, content team and sales team to execute well thought out trade marketing plan
  • Experience of using a CRM system to effectively target customers
  • Proven track record of thinking creatively and having a positive impact on the business
  • Flexible and able to adapt to multiple priorities
  • Resilient and able to persuade others
