The role

This is a fixed-term 10 month opportunity - Reporting to the Commercial Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Trade Marketing will work in the Evening Standard’s commercial department, managing the Communications Executive. . Job purpose

As a US Video Journalist you will work closely with The Independent’s bureaus in New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles to cover live and breaking news with a focus on America.

Reporting to the Head of Multimedia you will react to breaking stories and traffic requirements, work on long form productions when required and pitch original ideas.

You will be expected source footage and monitor and publish content, including live video feeds, to multiple platforms.

This role will mostly be remote and, with many colleagues in the US, you’ll need excellent communication skills and also the experience to make editorial decisions.

You will work Mon – Fri covering US hours (UK evenings and nights) and lead the video department during this time. You will be based in the head office in Kensington, London.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to be responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing complex online advertising models and forecasts through the use of relevant tools to produce various datasets that could be used to optimise advertising monetisation setups.

This role will provide support mainly to the AdOps data team to build forecasting datasets, cluster analysis, pattern identification, and behavioural models, with a main (but in no way exclusive) focus on the Evening Standard brand. This role is perfect for someone who has a strong mathematical background and has previous experience (2-3 years) working in a data science role, looking to take the next step in their data science career and to explore the thriving media industry.

The role

We are looking for a Data Engineer who will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing complex online advertising data pipelines through the use of relevant tools to produce various datasets that could be used to optimise advertising monetisation setups.

This position will provide support mainly to the AdOps data team to build ETLs, find issues and help resolve them.

The Operations team

The operations team consists of four main parts: Campaign Management, Programmatic Operations, Data and Ad Technology. This Data Engineer will be working with the data team having a focus on pipeline building and management. The operations team has grown from 2 to 16+ members with in the span of the last 3 years.

Key responsibilities

  • Rapidly develop proficient working knowledge of all platforms used within the AdOps data tem
  • Identify any issues and report them to the stakeholders
  • Develop ETLs to accumulate and report efficiently
  • Use data analysis to facilitate revenue growth
  • Find new ways to look into data that can produce valuable insights
  • Ensure that required reporting is done in an accurate and timely manner to ensure complete and accurate revenue recognition
  • Handle all data securely and responsibly, observing the Data Protection Act and Company Code of Conduct

Skills and experience

  • Proficient with SQL across a number of platforms including cloud e.g. BigQuery
  • Confident with reporting and data visualisation tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Domo or Google Data Studio
  • Experienced with cloud-based data pipeline processing solutions (GCP or AWS)
  • Experience of job scheduling and data pipeline automation
  • Exposure to data warehouse practises and principles
  • Experienced with testing methodologies and approaches
  • Part of an Agile delivery team
  • Proficient with at least one other major programming language such as Python, C# or R
  • Robust analytical abilities and quantitative skills including experience of providing reporting and optimization analysis
  • Ability to work to deadlines, to prioritize work load and deliver accurate information on time to a high standard – and be comfortable under pressure and amenable to out of hours issue resolution.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a high-paced environment
