Job purpose

The Commercial Insight Analyst will help The Independent to monetise it’s audiences effectively through the provision of insights about the brand, competitors and the market. This will include collating all relevant insights and data to formulate the best possible response to briefs and requests for campaign effectiveness.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • To respond to pitches and briefs with the most appropriate insights and data.
  • To formulate high quality sales stories and arguments to help win business and deliver campaigns.
  • To compose surveys, publish and interpret results to measure campaign effectiveness.
  • To support the wider business by delivering timely insights and facts to keep senior stakeholders up-to-date with trends, competitive performance and market information.
  • To ensure our commercial teams have the most up-to-date information, trends and site data.
  • To help raise the profile of The Independent externally to agencies and clients via collaboration with the trade marketing team.
  • To maintain current knowledge of all relevant industry research and methodologies.
  • To develop best practice in insight across the business.
  • To attend external events where appropriate to represent The Independent’s interests.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of digital insight tools (Nielsen, PAMCo, ComScore, TGI, Telmar/IMS)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Creative thinker, can formulate a successful sales story out of data
  • Ambitious, mature self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to engage and work well with a wide range of teams, both internal and external
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, flexible and highly organised
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Highly numerate
  • Curious mind, not afraid to ask questions until clear about the output required to achieve the objective

Preferred
  • Previous experience in an insight role
  • Working knowledge of a DMP
  • Previous experience in a digital business, publisher or advertising/media agency
  • Technical skills (eg coding, SQL, Python etc)

The Independent is looking for reporters for a new West Coast bureau.

Based in LA, these writers will cover everything from entertainment to

politics, social affairs and tech.

We are looking for a team that can produce agenda-setting exclusives, colorful features and short snappy news.

Under the LA bureau chief, our West Coast operation will expand on the efforts of the Independent’s New York team and build our 24/7 news operation.

The team

The Content and Syndication Teams are responsible for licensing ESI content and manage high revenue relationships with a range of publishers, digital partners and other content providers. The Independent is launching a new Spanish language website independentespanol.com, which the team is supporting.

About you

  • Experienced translator from Spanish to English and vice versa
  • Ability to work accurately and present reports in a timely fashion
  • Organised, with a logical approach to managing tasks

  • Proactive – can spot potential issues and address them before they become problems

Job purpose

You will support the Content and Syndication Teams by reviewing content published on the Independent Spanish website. The role also involves assisting other team members in client support and may require weekend and out-of-hours working.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Monitor Independent Spanish Language content published
  • Log the content quotas (by brand e.g. AP, By-lined articles etc.) published on the site in Excel
  • Check the translated articles by comparing them with the source English Language articles
  • Highlight any translation issues/errors and clearly report them to the Senior International Content Executive / US Editorial team
  • Liaise with the Senior International Content Executive over errors and anomalies to maintain consistent quality of translation
  • Indicate any potential compliance issues to the Editorial Compliance Manager
  • Assist the team with other tasks as required

Skills and experience

  • Completely fluent in Spanish and English. A knowledge of Latin American culture, Latinx community and topics of interest are advantageous
  • Additional languages such as Arabic, Turkish, Persian and Urdu are an advantage (to support other international language sites)
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Previous experience in proofreading/editing/reviewing is preferable
  • Previous media/journalism experience with a keen editorial eye
  • Excellent research skills and ability to choose the right keywords to find relevant information
  • Ability to carry out repetitive tasks with accuracy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience of problem solving
  • Experience of presenting detailed data in a clear, succinct format, while highlighting the key points
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a busy environment with a noisy background
  • Experience of interaction with customers is a benefit
  • Confidence and diplomacy skills in communicating errors
  • A team player with good communication skills and ability to work closely with the team remotely or in the office

The role

ESI Media are looking to recruit a Business Analyst to work in the Digital Product team.

You will play an integral part in developing the next generation of digital experiences for all newspaper titles. You will report to the Head of Product and have exposure to the senior management team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established national news media group with a fast-growing digital business. You will be working on products that are at the heart of news consumption and a massive driver of growth for the group.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in workshops with product managers & stakeholders to identify consumer problems and develop multiple solutions to solve those problems
  • Document requirements from business stakeholders to a degree that they can be easily understood by development teams
  • Liaise with stakeholders to get further information on requirements where necessary
  • Work with product managers to get the data required to make product prioritisation decisions
  • Document product solutions as identified by the product & development teams
  • Highlight potential risks in delivery pipeline
  • Highlight potential conflicts in upcoming development work
  • Work with Product Managers to groom the product backlog
  • Work with the team in getting high-level estimations for delivery of new features + functionality
  • Work with QA Manager to develop test plans based on current functionality
  • Working with the CTO, document existing & future system architecture

Required Competencies

  • Lateral thinking - you ask the right questions in order to get a full understanding of requirements and potential risks
  • Experience in agile delivery methodology (SCRUM as a bonus) & working with cross-functional teams
  • Use of Visio, LucidChart or similar to draw system architecture and basic wireframes used as talking points
  • Experience using JIRA
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • Comfortable asking questions of stakeholders at all levels
  • Motivated self starter; problem solver. Action orientated with a clear focus on delivery
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience Necessary

  • Has proven, solid experience working in software product delivery
  • Bonus if you have worked on a software migration project
  • Has worked in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
