The Data Team

Reports to: Commercial Data Manager

The ESI data team provides analysis, reporting and insight across The Independent and Evening Standard brands, enabling the business to make data-informed decisions. Areas of responsibility include data analytics, the commercial use of data, CRM and subscription marketing.

Job Purpose

You will be responsible for providing the commercial sales team and wider business with data and insights that support the strategic objectives of the business and help to increase revenues for the company’s digital media properties.

The Senior Commercial Data Analyst will be the lead technical advisor on ESI’s data management platform, supporting different areas of the business including trading, creative solutions, digital sales, and partnerships/sponsorship. They will support the Commercial Data Analyst and Commercial Data Manager in extracting and analysing data from our data analytics and data management platforms to create compelling data-informed insight stories for the business and the commercial team.

Key responsibilities

  • Be the technical lead advisor for data usage in Business Insights (BI) projects
  • Manage the DMP relationship to ensure optimum data collection and accuracy across all platforms
  • Work closely with the sales & trading teams to provide relevant data insights and audience segments in response to briefs
  • Work with Commercial Data Analyst to build and categorise new audience segments using 1st and 3rd party data in response to business requirements
  • Identify new opportunities for revenue generation and BI utilising DMP data

In addition, the role contributes to daily and weekly reporting and some group functions including payroll.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Provide support and assist in Daily, Weekly, Monthly reporting and analysis
  • Allocate invoices correctly, liaising with external suppliers and customers where necessary
  • Preparation of accrual and prepayment journal entries, developing in depth knowledge to provide month end analysis
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to support decision making
  • Monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Contribute to a strong and effective financial control environment
  • Any other duties to support the finance function
  • Reconciliation of purchasing credit cards
  • Provide support with budget/forecast building
  • Undertake ad-hoc duties as required including completion of ONS surveys
  • Produce surveys for National Statistics Office
  • System updates and analysis – Adpoint/ V1/ SunSystems
  • Support the preparation of quarterly VAT returns
  • Liaise with auditors, answering queries and providing documentation

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous finance experience essential, including Accounts payable and/or Accounts receivable
  • Media industry experience advantageous

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to easily identify data anomolies

Job purpose

Working in a fast-paced commercial environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and owning the sponsorship and partnerships strategy and will manage the sponsorship team, to ensure it meets all its financial targets and all aspects of commercial development and sponsorship across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the Managing Director and other senior managers to set the vision for the events business.
  • Develop the events sponsorship strategy and plans and oversee implementation.
  • Manage and deliver a growing income budget of £3.5m.
  • Manage the sponsorship team to ensure it meets all its financial targets.
  • Actively and intelligently develop appropriate new sponsorship opportunities and commercial brand partnerships.
  • Work with colleagues to develop propositions, scope proposals and oversee the 'go-to market’ strategy for new events and then coordinate delivery to the highest standard.
  • Ensure exceptional value for sponsors across all activities and champion high-quality account management across the team.
  • Day-to-day management and development of a team of two commercial sponsorship managers.
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to the team as needed.

The Story Studio division within ESI Media commercial is made up of commercial editors, designers and project managers meeting the increased demand for solutions partnerships and sponsorships.

Job purpose

The role will report to the Head of Project Management and share in the delivery of cross-media projects: from one-off advertorials to long-term partnerships which may require liaising with Events, Promotions and digital specialists.

Project managers work across our whole portfolio of titles, covering ESI’s main media (print and digital including social media and video).
